Lead designer for a long term client with npk design, Tacx is a leading cycle equipment manufacturer that develop trainers and accessories for the professional cycling circuit, supporting major tours around the world.

For this cycle trainer, the aim was the replacement frame of their mainstream popular trainer, ironing out some of the issues users were having with the previous model. The final product was a big departure for Tacx that would define their brand and product identity.

This was one of the first products in my career where I was also responsible for the engineering of each individual part and where I created more appreciation and strength being a strong all round technical industrial designer.

The dynamic stance is more expressive than before, with a strategic choice in color and graphics placement that enhances Tacx marketing campaigns during the professional cycling tour.

The stability of the frame could in turn also support more powerful magnetic motors for higher load applications than before.

The frame is universally applied across a range of product categories, either with mechanical or electronic resistance adjuster depending on the type of resistance motor.

The frame was launched in 2005 and remains in production across different category of trainers.

The mechanical adjuster was developed along side the new frame architecture. It has a quick release clasp mechanism that fits different size handlebars and held securely in place during use.

The parts are formed from Glass filled ABS to retain torsional rigidity while keeping the part cost low.
