Vivint
IOT home devices 2013
The brief for this project was to create a new category of home devices for Vivint. Hired to lead a talented Industrial design team in collaboration with a trend forecasting agency, the project was strategic in nature for the purpose to provide inspiration to the inhouse design team for future products lines.
Based on their specific technologies and expertise in home internet and security product market. Incorporating the new product brand values that had been developed, several different brand ideas were explored from which this series was chosen.
The result from this exploration created a product line that was more lifestyle focused and designed to work cohesively with the different home architectural styles.
The new design direction is restrained in form and feels it belongs with the home.
There is a common design language throughout the range differentiated only by the materials used, dependent on the content and location in the home. Each product also has a certain element and connection of human tactility build in, derived from the known behaviors and home materials that define its enduring function.
The simple rectangular profile frames the main functional element and is further accentuated by a feature detail that draws the eye to the core technology.
smart door lock handle
ID - Keyless entry is the major innovation for this design with a tamper proof door button that presents itself when unlocked through a companion app or similar keyless entry feature.
doorbell
ID - Simple button gesture, once pressed has a slow return to help the camera scan the person vertically in more detail.
